BIO:After spending his first two F1 seasons with Renault, Petrov was released by the team, and appeared to be in danger of not having a ride for 2012. But, just when Petrov seemed destined for the sidelines, Caterham booted veteran Jarno Trulli in favor of Petrov, keeping the sport’s only Russian driver on the Formula One grid for a third straight year. Petrov opened 2011 with a bang, scoring his first career podium finish in Australia, but struggled from there as speculation about his future with the team intensified. The 2009 GP2 Series runnerup fared better in his first season with the team, finishing fifth in Hungary and sixth in Abu Dhabi where he fended off a title-chasing Fernando Alonso.
