BIO:Buemi was first Swiss driver to start a Grand Prix for 14 years.

He began karting aged 5 in 1994, and graduated to cars ten years later, finishing third in the German Formula BMW series. He was runner-up in the category in 2005 and second in the BMW World Final. Moved up to German Formula Renault in 2006, taking two wins, while simultaneously racing in the F3 Euroseries, taking an additional win.

Combined F3 Euroseries duty in 2007 (finishing as runner-up in the championship to Romain Grosjean) with occasional GP2 outings for ART, qualifying fourth on his debut at Monte-Carlo. Raced in the series full-time in 2008, taking two wins, as well as finishing as runner-up in the GP2 Asia series (again to Grosjean).

In 2009 Buemi was impressive in his F1 debut and generally outperformed more experienced teammate Sebastian Bourdais, who is ultimately dropped mid-season, leaving Buemi to lead. Buemi capped off the year by scoring points in the final two rounds.
