BIO:Michael Waltrip's place in NASCAR history was secured on one of the sport's darkest days. In 2001 Waltrip recorded his first career Cup victory in the season-opening Daytona 500 when Dale Earnhardt cleared a path for Waltrip who was driving his first race for the NASCAR legend. Earnhardt crashed into the wall and died instantly. Waltrip broke an 0-for-462 slump with the win. Waltrip won the Daytona 500 again in 2003. He also won the 1996 All Star Race. Waltrip has over 1,000 NASCAR starts. He has 4 Cup wins and 11 Nationwide victories. Waltrip is scheduled to drive a part-time Cup schedule in 2012.
